i have recently made a post about switching to a different skimmer. right now i am running a etts reef devil deluxe. some might say the technology is a little out dated. i have never had a needle wheel skimmer before and i would like to know if i would notice a difference for the better or worse if i was to swtch to a octopus nw150 and do a mesh wheel mod? should i stick with what i have or is it worth trying the nw150. i have a 90gallon reef, lightly stocked now, eventually medium stock, 30gallon fuge. thanks

I keep hearing very, very good things on the NW150,and 200. I would say if you are thinking about, then do it. My next skimmer is going to be the NSW150.

I have the nw 110 on my 65. Sems to work just fine. Its funny I thought about getting a etss reef devil. I cant complain though I havee thought about the mesh mod but thought I would leave it alone. It works. The difference between mine and hte 150 is mine has a 4" diam housing where the 150 has a 6" housing and a slightly larger pump i think. I did bore out the inlet on the venturi just a little. Other than that it been going for about 8 months. I do like that the top comes of by a SCH 80 pvc fitting. Durable easy. I empty mine once a week someties twice. I try to get a thicker skimmate. Good luck and I like my octo. I just thought I would try a downdraft if I could get a deal.

i run an ETTS, works great.
also heard very good thing about the octo skimmers also. if i could do it all over, i would go with the octo and mod it.....

I have an octopus nw 220 on my 110g and love it. Very well built easy to adjust and pulls out plenty of junk out.
I have not modified mine and don't plan on it. I had a maxi-jet 1200 powerhead and modded them and had to replace the impeller on both. Thus I worry about ruining the pump.
