Probably one of the most sought after angelfish the conspicuous angel. Its limited distribution is why it is rarely seen in the trade. It has been reported from New Caldonia south to the Great Barrier Reef and New South Wales, and east to Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands.
This species commands a high price, but what is less attractive about it is the real possibility that it will not acclimate to captive living. A significant number that enter the trade do not eat or suddenly stop after several months.
