Constant problem. Help

I am new here and figured that I might pose a question that has been driving me crazy. I have a 55 gal set up filtered by a very good protein scimmer. I do not have any coral. For the past 2 years, occassionaly, like right now, one of my fish stops eating, looses color, , gets a shrunken belly, and scratches himself on the bottom. The fish does not have any growths on his body. When feeding, the fish will be very interested in the food but will not eat. I have tried many different types of food to no avail. Eventualy, the fish will die in about 1 month. Erythromycin has not helped. Any suggestions?

Go to top right and hit search and type in Dips or freshwater dips or formalin dips and you will get a lot of good help on how and what to do. Sorry, just noticed your post and lack of responses to it but the search feature will give you what you need.
Just noticed that this was double posted and Salty gave you same advice on other post.
