I would think you would rather have a clear tall reaction chamber so you could monitor the sand in suspension

The cambers in fluidized beds are made such so the sand stays in suspension but doesn't leave the filter. How would a regular canister stop the sand from leaving? Does this canister have a mod for such?

Band the only reason i would see is that it gives the hobbyist a advantage in that the sand would never get impacted verses a sand substratum

OK, that makes sense. I would worry a lot about how long aerobic bacteria could survive in a sealed canister during a power outage.

Innovation has produced this hobby so I'm not purposely discouraging you. I just think you should hear thoughts from all sides before risking lives.
