Converting CC to LS

I have a 55gal. 2 month old FOWLR. Will I start a new cycle if I change from CC to LS? and if it dose start a new cycle, is there any way I can avoid this?
For my second question, are all LS equal? Is their one brand better (or from a special area) then another?
Any comments/suggestion/experiences would help me out allot. Thanks in advance.

My tank is 5 months old and I've been slowly converting to sand bed from cc. It is a pain, but here's how I'm doing it so as not to lose bio. I take out about 2 cups full of cc in one area, then put the cc in a piece of pantyhose, tie it up and put it back on the sand. Looks funny but I don't lose anything that way. I'm not using live sand but seeding with my cc that way. Good luck!
