Converting Oceanic to Regular Tank?

I recently purchased a 240 gallon oceanic tank off craigslist for a really good deal and i really don't have the money to buy all the pumps and other equipment for underneath the tank. So i was wondering if any of you have just plugged the holes in the bottom and used it like a regular tank. (Like a hang on back skimmer and putting all the powerheads and other equipment in the tank) I know it doesn't look nearly as good but i am strapped for cash right now. The tank i have has one overflow in the center of the tank and 4 holes in the bottom for the closed loop system. Or do yall have any better suggestions??

You can use caps to close the bulkheads yes.
Personally, I don't know of a good HOT skimmer that can handle a 240gal tank. You don't need an elaborate setup, but I think you're better off waiting until you can setup a sump.

Unfortunately, I agree as well. Clean out a space in the garage and wait for greener times. $70 in plumbing parts, two $65 pumps, and $150 sump, definitely are some of the cheaper costs in a 240 gallon setup. Like, any idea on the costs of 300 pounds of live rock?

I agree totally. Actually I'd go a step further and say, if you can afford to set this up with the stated basic equipment, you cant afford to have it. Obviously this is an upgrade, so any equipment you currently have is not really going to be sufficient. So why purchase hob stuff etc. instead of a good sump/fuge. Heck, you might even be able to use your current set up as a sump/fuge> Then a return pump, or twins, and some plumbing and bamo!
