Cool Shrimp

I was going to get one but I read that they may kill members of their own species. I'm not sure if that means other shrimpsor just coral banded shrimps. I don't need them to kill my cleaners and peppermints.

They wont bother other shrimp, just other Coral banded shrimp unless they are a mated pair.
I have one in my 46 gal bow along with two camel backs and a skunk cleaner shrimp with no problems at all.

They are highly territorial and will usually attack any other shrimp that cross their paths. However, most other shrimp are too fast for the CBS to catch, and avoid its territory in the 1st place.
That being said, I've had a CBS for over a year and it has never injured my other shrimp, fish, or corals. I've seen it try to grab my saron shrimp, but the saron shrimp move like bullets.

What about the CBS messing with corals? I read that might cut open corals to get the food the coral has consumed. I would think this could be a case of "have seen" but maybe not the "norm". I think if the shrimp is well feed, he would leave the corals alone. Also, will they crawl over the rocks. My buddy has one that stays in it's cave always. He's had him for about a year and says he never ventures out. He does clean the dottyback but the other fish don't pay him any attention.

Yep probably is a "have seen" but not the "norm".
In theory if they are well fed they won't do this.

I may consider getting one sometime down the road. I put another peppermint shrimp in last night which gives me two of them and two cleaners and one pistol. I have another pistol on order. I also would like to get a decorator crab but was told that's a no-no in reef tanks. That seems to be stated in all my book and online info sources.

I've never witnessed my cbs damage any of my corals or anemones. It has grabbed pieces of food off of the an anemone, but never damaged one. Just keep your cbs well fed by feeding it everytime you feed your corals.

Well I went with the blue boxer shrimp. He's rather small so hopefully he won't cause any problems.
