Thinking of buying a Mandarin or Sleeper Goby.The glass of my Tank is crawling with hundreds of little-white-guys.
Question is:
Should I discontinue using my Eheim Canister filter? Will the finer media
decrease bug population to below healthy level
for these fish?

If you've got that many pods... you must be doing something right. If your params check out too, I'd keep going just the way you are!

the filter won't decrease the "bug" population in the tank but your tank size and LR amount is probably a little too low for a mandarin. some people will tell you that they eat other foods and some probably do but most of these fish will die a slow death in a 50 gal tank with 40lbs of live rock. I have a 50 also and would love a mandarin but have held off for fear of starving it. from what others have posted they can really decimate a pod population quickly.

I HAVE A 29 GALLON WITH ABOUT 40-45 POUNDS OF LR, AND I'VE HAD MY MANDARIN FOR LIKE 2 YEARS NOW.
