Copepods in Fish Only Question?

Hey everyone, I was wondering what is they best way to go about creating an established copepod population in a fish only tank? I want to eventually get a mandrin goby and need the copepods for food. Also can they be "grown" outside the tank in a seperate tank or something, then transfered as needed for feeding?

You sure can! I would look into a refugium or a refugium/sump combo. It would be a place where the pods could breed without being eaten, while a healthy amount are still going into the tank regularly.

Sweet, im glad to hear i can breed them in the same tank (well the refugium/sump) so i dont have to have a second tank just for the copepods. Also should i keep anything special in the refugium for them?
Thx for the responses keep um coming:)

I have not started the tank just yet, but am getting as prepaired as i can before starting, so no i dont as of now haha :). But, what is chaeto and what is it used for?

its a macro algae, and its used for filtration, u put a clump of it in your sump/refugium, you'll have to trim it occasionally, and ur copepods will breed an multiply like crazy in there, and they'll have ready access to get back to your DT

how much live rocks do u hv in ur tank currently? u will still need plenty of liverocks in ur dt to sustain a mandarin. u wont hv enough pods from the fuge (even if u hv a lot there) going into the dt.

thx for the info everyone! I am definitly becoming more prepaird for this tank when i recieve it. And mboswell, the tank i will be reciving does have the chaeto in the sump/ refugium but not for the purpose i will use it for, i was planning on really cleaning it out and putting new stuff in for the install at my place is that a good idea or is it best to use the older stuff?

Agreed on the year waiting time, i have heard that many times and am planning on waiting, since i will be resatrting the tank from scratch.
