Copper

Has anyone ever tried running a fish only tank with copper in it non stop. Is it okay to do this, I have heard after awhile copper can affect a fishes immune system, plus damage their insides.

my father does that with a 55 gal with a pork puffer. i know that he has had it for about 3 or 4 yrs.
