Copperband and Heniochus fish get along?

Hi, I am asking for advice now that my copperband has died. My Heniochus would pick on him since I got the copperband but I never thought that it would kill him. I thought both of them were peaceful fishes? Yesterday when I got home my copperband was laying on the floor and the heniochus was picking on him. Did I do wrong by leaving both of them together? I also test my water and everything was perfect. Oh and by the way I'm new at this forum. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am far from an expert but I believe that same family fish will seldom get along. even when they are considered to be friendly non-agressive fish. ex: 2 angel fish of a different species will not get along or 2 different clown fish will not get along.. again Im no expert... :D

Heniochus and Chelmon (Copperband) are not closely related.
I would agree with Denny if they were in the same Genus or species, but not for the same family.
I am inclined to say your Copperband died and the Heniochus was taking the opportunity to get an easy meal- it was probably eating the eyes first, as most fish do. (Eyeballs must be tasty).

Well the copperband was still alive, but laying on the gravel. The heniochus was still bitting him on the side of his body. It was hard to see that, so i just took him out of the tank. I know he didn't have any type of problem with him being sick. That morning I checked all my fishes and he was fine. In the afternoon he was a gonner!!!

I had the pair in my tank, and i swear they were best freinds, never fought, always together. But who knows in this hobby, one mans luck is anothers demise. Best of luck, sorry for your loss Todd

Are you saying that fish of the FAMILY Chaetodontidae can't be kept together? Don't you mean GENUS or SPECIES? If so, where did you get that information?

If you read the profiles on the FISH page on this site, the copperband is listed as peaceful and the heniochus is listed as bold. that would make me keep them apart. matt

Darthmatt, i do not disagree with you. My question is where did the info of not keeping fish in the same FAMILY together come about.

Because if there closely related then they will need the same thing and will see each other as a threat to there territory "they will deffend there food and such from the other"

So, are you guys telling me that I could only keep one species of everykind? for ex: Can I keep a Hippo tang and a powder blue tang together? or any kind of tang in the same aquarium?
I just notice this, this morning...... I have a small clarkii clown and I notice that on one of his pelvic fins was kinda biten! I saw the heniochus chasing him this morning!!! I think this heniochus is a bully, what should I do?:help:

Well the fish that have the same bodie shape and style will thing each other are the same fish and fight for territory "if they are that way" some fish wont. You just have to look and see how many or what types you can keep "research each fish before getting"

Thanks alot I was wondering how long it would take for someone to congradulate me on my posts.
And when I dont have to work my mom and dad usually are so im home by myself and "we dont have sattalite cable or high speed internet" they tried to charge us $200 for a $50 bill so I told him come on in and get your stuff. So I get bored and this is the only thing I can do on dialup really I cant play games online anymore.

is he by himself? because i noticed when mine was the only one in the tank (other died becase heater broke) he would bullie my clown but i got two more and they all stay around each other and dont bother any other fish, but they are bold and will chase other fish away during feedings
if adding another doesnt help maybe you should trade him in
