Coral/ Anemone Sting ?

I have a host anemone ( see pic), and a green ricodea, After working in my tank today my thumb hurts a bit feels a little kinda like I got a splinter, However I am paranoid from the warnings SWF.com has on the site about " not responsible for death. . . " anyone here been stung? or have knowledge of the two things I have and if the sting is dangerous to humans , how much so ect ?

I handle corals and my anenome fairly often with bare hands and haven't had any issues but anything is possible, especially if you have allergies.

Thanx for Prompt response. I am not alergic to like bee's or anything like that but I am to Chocolate and penecilin ( SP )
Any other Experiences/ knowledge would be GREAT.

Ive gotten hit by a rock anemone that felt like getting stung by an ant. Ive had a burning sensation from a bta before as well after I dried my hands.
What you really need to watch out for is zoas and palys. They produce a toxin called a palytoxin and it is often fatal. Just wash up really well after you handle zoas. I've read some posts of where someone's dog licked their hands after being in the tank and died shortly after.

Also you don't want to forget and touch your eyes or mouth or SOMETHING, without washing. Your skin gives you so much prtection, but you could have reactions or infections if passed into your body by mucous membrane or open wounds.

Ya, just depends on if you are allergic - everyone is different. If you are super paraniod by it use gloves when messing with your tank. I handled my bta a bit when acclimating and never felt a thing.
If you start feeling short of breathe, or sweating call your doctor or go to the hospital. Otherwise if you just feel a tingling sensation i wouldn't worry too much about it. I have the same sensation when my hands are dry and i just place my hand in the aquarium, just the salt irritating my dry hands.

most likely you just scratched yourself on some rock or sharp surface and didnt even notice. The salt irritates the shaffed skin, or the coral irritates it.
It happens to me all the time. As long as you dont start freaking out and having some sort of allergic type reaction, I would say its something very simple as stated above.

The warnings are to make sure that SWF cover themselves legally if someone gets hurt from one of the items they buy here. Realy stupid though as anything on the site can result in injury and potential death if handled or used wrong.

I made the mistake of feeding my anemone after playing with my cat, had a small cut on my finger I forgot about. It was burning like hell for about an hour. On the bright side, Ill remember not to do it again hehe.

I would say any latex gloves that dont have powder.

IMO rubber kitchen gloves work well. I use them myself when cleaning the tank and handling corals. But i have heard that just normal 1.75 mil plastic shoulder length gloves for handling food work too.
