Coral Banded Shrimp ate Green Chromis

I think our Coral Banded Shrimp just killed our Green Chromis! We didn't actually see him do it, but we don't think the Chromis just up and died (and therefore we caught the Shrimp grabbing a bite to eat on the already dead fish).
Has anyone else seen this behavior from a Coral Banded Shrimp? Will they attack and eat other fish? We're thinking of taking it back to the LFS and waiting for a (more peaceful) Cleaner Shrimp to come in.

I highly doubt it was the CBS.
What is your water parameters? The CBS i think is purley scavanging in this case.
I would hold off putting back the shrimp until all further possibilities are explored.
Good luck.

temp: 81 deg F (ranges from 79-82)
salinity: 54.8 mS (1.027 Specific Gravity)
ph: 8.2
amonia: 0
nitrates: 0
It's a 20 gallon tank that I purchased. It's been running for over a year (but I'm new to this). It has a DSB and a bunch of LR. The other fish is some sort of blue damsel (devil?). It came with a sea star and a sea urchin. 4-5 days ago we added the CBS and a feather duster.
We've taken out the dead fish and put the CBS into quarentine.
So you think something else killed the green chromis? Is the salinity too high?

I think it was the CBS...I tried one once and that was enough for me, ate my cleaner shrimp..I'm sure some people here will tell you they are fine, and they have had theres for years...but just relating my experience..not again for me. There are too many other way cool, not mean shrimp out there for me to chance it!!

exactly i thought he was cool but i hated him. i came home and found he had my pygmy angel pinned down in a corner and was trying to eat him while the pygmy struggled. i tapped the glass and the cbs took off. that was the last straw

I just spent $90 to get a $30 foxface from this website. One of the additional purchases I made to get that minimum order was a CBS. I have nothing else aggressive in my tank and it was doing fine but all of a sudden came up missing and has been gone now for 2.5 weeks. I think it was the CBS but have no proof. I'm super bitter about it.

CBSs are Jeckyl and Hydes. They are fine until one day when they snap...
I suspect the one in my nano whaled on my percula clown... I never found the body.
CBSs WILL be aggressive towards other shrimp. The cleaner shrimp story I'd totally believe.
I'd tend to think the Chromis would be too fast for the CBS, unless he ambushed at night. It's nonetheless entirely possible.

I talked to my LFS and they said they would give me 50% credit for what they sell theirs for. Luckily they sell theirs for $13 (a rip off) and I got mine for $7 off this site so I'll come out even on that and I'll probably get two cleaner shrimps that are more passive. This is exactly why I DIDN'T set up an aggressive tank. Although once I sell my house soon I may get an additional 125 and do aggressive. Stuipd CBS's.

I'll grab him by the tentacles if I have to. He sometimes stays still when I put my hand in the tank and has those long tentacles sticking out. Got these arm length gloves for cheap off the bay so I don't mind going in anywhere after him.

Well these are only like garbage bags made into gloves but I can handle a little blood. I know who will win the battle and the war.

I took the CBS back to the LFS. No blood in getting him out of the tank, but I did have to take out half of the LR to get a him.
We will buy a cleaner shrimp when one of the LFS has one in stock.
