Coral Banded Shrimp Question

Just got a Coral Banded Shrimp a few days ago. He is doing great, perching on top of rocks and looks really cool. I feed my fish mysis shrimp. My question, will he eat the same thing?
I did as much research as possible before buying him... I'm under the assumption he won't kill snails or hermits, right? They're supposed to be pretty peaceful, right?

Mine doesn't bother anything snails and such, but wouldn't make an attempt at any other shrimp or such he'll eat just about any type of food.....they are scavengers.

I've had a CB shrimp, his name is Scampi, in my tank going on 2 years now. Where it is true that they are scavengers, it is not beneath Scampi to accept a piece of frozen Prime Reef or a little krill as a treat. He looks hilarious when he's eating the Prime Reef, like a little kid with his mouth stuffed full of cotton candy :hilarious
I agree that since you have a coral banded, other shrimp additions are probably not going to work, that is unless you have a really big system, even then...who knows??
Post some pics Frank...always love to see new pics!!

I love shrimp. I have 2 skunk cleaners, 2 firered cleaners and one CBS living together for the last 6 weeks. The cbs was the last added. Maybe I will have trouble in the future. Dunno. But I have seen several tanks with other shrimp in with the CBS.

I have a CBS with one cleaner and 3 peppermints in a 55. Can's say for sure if the CBS killed one of my cleaners of if he was just doing his job as a scavenger cleaning up what was already dead. At any rate, I haven't seen him attack anything....yet. Just like any other shrimp, he picks at the rock and the sand and will accept pieces of formula one or raw shrimp (sounds cannibalistic).

I Have A Cbs In My 12g Nano And Does Fine With The Cleaner Crew. Eats Anything, Mysis, Brine, Flake...what Ever I Throw In There He'll Eat. He Was Annoyed By My Anemone At First When That Was Introduced But Now He Just Walks Over Him For Food. He Doesnt Like My Maroon Clown Much Either, Until The Clown Feeds Him! Haha. They Definitly Have Personality

I have a CBS along with 2 mated Fire Shrimp, 2 mated Skunk Cleaner Shrimps, and a few peppermint shrimp. 3 months and no fatalities so far. The CBS has staked out his territory and pretty much stays there. The other shrimp recognize where he is when their feelers hit his and then they move out of his way.
I have more problems with the hermits going after the snails. The CBS hasn't gone after anything though he does make a great show of being aggressive when the tangs swim too close.

Hermits going after snails... don't get me started. I had to redo part of my clean up crew. I had blue legged hermits (mainly because they are very affordable) and they destroyed my snails and scarlet hermits. So I one by one removed every blue legged hermit and purchased new snails and scarlets. Of course, I missed one blue legged hermit, and I hadn't had my scarlets in for 5 minutes when this blue legged hermit comes out of the rock work and attacks a scarlet. I reached in and got him before he harmed the scarlet. Now my tank is peaceful... though one snail perished yesterday. I'm looking for the culprit, but I think it may have just been his time.

The CBS generally won't become aggressive if he has adequate hiding places and is kept well-fed. I feed mine fresh seafood from the grocery store.
Mona, good to see that Scampi is alive and well. I think you and I got our shrimp at roughly the same time. Mine, "Pinchy," is doing well too.

Okay - I can say that in a 90, 125, and a 210 gallon system with other shrimp in them for some time; that upon the introduction of a CBS there seem to be mysterious mutilations occuring. No deaths as of yet, but shortened and missing antennae, missing legs, missing claws, one blood red fire shrimp is missing every appendage off his left side and regrowing them.
Now in all three tanks - whichever - side the cbs is on - then all other shrimp seem to stay on the other side (at least the ones still alive!) S my advice is cbs in larger systems last, and no mixing cbs and other shrimp in smaller tanks unless you like roman gladiator duels!

frank: Hey! Don't pick on hermit crabs. Long time readers know my feelings on that subject... most only eat snails when you STARVE them by having too many in your tank...

skipperdz... i hope you plan to upgrade...
anemones can't stay in a 12, they need at LEAST a 30-40 gallon
maroon clowns need at LEAST 30-40gallons
CBS need at LEAST 20-30 gallons
and i have a cbs in my 30 and love him. haven't fead my tank in over a month and he's fine. had ich outbreak, he was the only survivor, and now i have a lawnmower blenny so the blenny eats algae, and my cbs just scavenges.
just make sure to make a cave near the front of the tank so you can see him all the time. i made a drop off with overhang, and he hangs upside down all day at the very front of the tank.

You can do mated pairs of CBS, and one should be smaller than the other.
