I have this coral for 4 months now, not sure of the name, it had been doing really good, growing a lot too. i had really bad lights and 2 weeks ago i upgraded to t5s 4x39watt. nothing else in the tank has changed apart from the lights, and now my coral hasnt come out as much. all other corals in tank are doing good.
any ideas??

My friend, those are true blue mushrooms and the last picture is what they are supposed to look like....so must like the new light because now they are healthy looking..unless you are part of the Adams family that cuts the ugly tops off of roses, I would think the blue looked better than the fleshy color.
On the other hand if you have the pictures mixed up and the first is the after..they will be fine, mushrooms like it not so bright so you might move them to the bottom of the tank. My blues are 6 years old, here is a picture of mine.

Oh, Thanks flower. No the pictures weren't messed up I thought they were supposed to stick like they did in the first photo, but thanks so much for your detailed response :) and yes they are looking a lot nicer colour now too

Feed the tank some microvert or simular coral food (not too much)
The true blues in the picture were my first coral, they spread everywhere. Those striped metallic in the foreground are awesome too, all on a single rock they look like one huge coral...they have also spread all over the tank. You might consider getting some of those.

blues???? those are purple man i swear it!
Mushys might have just been getting used to the new light sh4n! Most corals when added to a tank need 1) light acclimating time 2) temp acclimate
Give em time and im sure they will spruce right up....also maybe a lil to high in the tank and getting to much light as previously posted...

LOL...I agree they are as purple on the blue side as it gets, but they are called true blue, I don't know why...but that isn't the book name just what folks call them. Those mushrooms look great in a new tank but in one covered in coraline they disappear by blending in too well. The green stripe metallic really pop out and look awesome and someday I want me some bright red ones with pink dots on them. I have seen them only once and if I ever find them again, I will get them if I must borrow the cash to do so..
Mushrooms are not very picky on coral food but that marine snow in the bottle is garbage. Try Kents microvert or some other coral food if you add anything else.

Discosoma sp.

Because they are so invasive in that they spread everywhere I would only consider a mushroom in my tank if I every saw any of the following for sale. )although I do have some Ricordea florida in my tank but they don't spread so much like the others)

kinda hard to classify them imo. I have books but im thinkin they all look so much a like. Maybe they need better picks in the book or something!

Spanko. that first pic is pretty as a butterfly....If I see anything for sale that I can afford, even half as pretty.... it's going in my tank. I'm off for mushroom hunting.
