Youre going to want to keep the diamond goby from doing that, if sand stays on it could aggitate the coral, or if the sand stays there for a bit, begin killing tissue, which could make room for pathogens to enter the coral and overall not good.
I think this thread answered my question about my elegance coral, which is history
I had it on some LR about halfway up in my 55 gal tank and while it looked nice for about a week, it's now gone.
Not meaning to hijack, but what is it about being on a rock that makes it a bad place for the elegance? Is the sand more like their natural environment, or does the hard rock somehow damage the coral?
Thanks!
Maybe I should tell my elegance that. I have it on LR about half way up in my 75. It's grown to 3 times the size when I bought it, and it's been doing great for several months now.

Yep, agreed. I know two people with thriving elegance's that are on the rock.
From what I have seen/experienced, It seems to be more of a factor of havving a nutrient rich tank and good enough lighting more than anything else. IMO dirty water + lps friendly lighting =Happy elegance. This is just what I have seen.
From what I have read about them there natural environment is almost like a murky sand bed(nutrient rich). I don't really know that the lighting is really a huge issue for them. Being on the lr can tend to irritate the under tissue if the elegance doesn't extend out far enough.
