I'm growing increasingly frustrated to the point of giving up on corals. Nothing seems to survive except the pulsing xenia and green mushrooms that I have. This is what I have:
125 Tank
20 gallon sump with Miracle mud and 4 different types of macro algae / plenty of pods also.
sump contains the skimmer and a phosban reactor / both functioning properly
rio 2100 return into a scwd
salinity 1.025
Nitrites 0
Phosphate less than 2
0 ammonia
0 nitrates
ph of 8.3
calcium of 450 or better
Kalk drip
overhead light is a Odyssea Halide with 3 dbl ended 175W 10000K along with two 130 watt actnic pc bulbs.
inside the tank has returns from the swcd along with two zoo med oscillating power heads aimed down plus two maxi jet 600's aimed up to keep the surface agitated which adds up to about 1400gph turnover.
The tank has been up and running for about 8 months and supplys enough pod food to keep a mandarin and a scooter blennie plump and healthy.
I recently added a plate coral which ate cyclops eeze and shrimp at first only to notice the tissue receding
added a gionopora ( I realize they are difficult) only to watch it dye after time and after feeding it marine snow & cyclops eeze
Yellow polyps lived for about 3 weeks
I have xenia which seems to be flourishing as well as the green mushrooms which actually grew and split.
I have brown polys and a green mushroom ricordia which just seem to exist.
Other than the xenia and the mushrooms everything else just seems to exist or kick off so what the heck am I missing? I place everything according to light and flow and as far as I can tell everything seems okay tank wise but they just dye........
I have to be missing something...anybody?
Also I just bought a thorny oyster who was encrusted with coral and sponge..coral is fine but the sponge got algae on it and seems to be dying...why am I getting algae with such low phosphates? light cycle was 10 hr days and I have cut it back to 8 hr days..the water flow is good...I'm getting ticked and frustrated....
