Received a new frag at my Local aquarium club meeting tonight and I can't remember what it is. Any ideas would be helpful. It almost looks like potato chip coral but I think it is the wrong texture. Any help would be appreciated!
ReveX - we swap a lot for free but I paid $5 for this one. It would probably be $35 at a LFS
Sam - you are correct Pavona decussata is Potato Chip coral but I don't think it has any texture, I believe it is smooth?
Not positive but it looks like some type of montipora capricornis....maybe somebody with SPS experience can confirm or alter my attempt at ID...in any case its a healthy looking frag...good luck with it.
NMReef,
Thank you very much! I actually got a piece of brown Montipora Capricornis from the same guy last night so I am pretty sure it isn't that. He called it something else and I can't for the life of me figure it out! I have been looking everywhere but haven't found any matches. I posted a question to the person who gave it me on out local aquarium club board so hopefully he will see it and reply! The guy that gave it to me has 7 tanks with close to 400 different corals!
elephant ear is typically called Pectina, but that is definately a Pavona frag that youve got there, and avery nice one at that! Pavona is also often called the cactus coral!
good luck
