hi, i'm building a canopy for my tank, and i'm wanting to take apart my old lighting fixtures and use those lights. i'm trying to figure out how to take apart a 48" coral life aqualight 4X65W. I've found directions for everything except how to get the switches and power cords out. any help would be great. thanks!

Usually if you want to salvage power cords from an existing fixture, you cut the cord and then solder it back together... When I've gutted fixtures in the past, I just cut the cord where it goes into the fixture. Then I take out the electronic guts and the ballast. I put them in my new fixture and then solder all the wires back together. Wrap everything in electrical tape and you're done.
Maybe you could mark which wires go where before you cut them. Get some masking tape and write a number on each side of a wire before you cut it. Then after you cut it, you just match up the numbers and put it back together.
