coral lighting

i just bought a 48" 260w jebco pc light fixture for my 55g and was wondering if that is good enough lighting to house some corals..

You should be fine for softies and LPS. No clams, SPS, or anemones.

not to hijack, but i have a similar questions about a 30gal (16" tall) with a 36" Nova extreme T5HO (aprox 156watts). What about with two of those fixtures?

You can go crazy with PC lighting, but higher light demanding corals and inverts generally do not do well under them regardless of their proximity to the light. PC just don't have the punch.
mkzimms: I'd go with a four-bulb unit.
