i've noticed that some of my lr has what look like small red crystal things growing on it.
i read that coraline can grow in stalk lilke crystals. true? false?
yes, that is true, but you'd have to post a picture for anyone to know for sure. the coralline can grow layers over other layers which looks like a thick crust, don't know if I'd say "stalks".
these are definitely stalks/sticks like crystal growth.my tank is only 3+ months in. i have the layered coraline that you mention. things are very tiny in there now. i will try to get a picture but not sure if it'll come out.
there are tiny things that are either a kind of snail or feather dusters that tend to grow on rocks at about the age that your tank is, sounds more like that. I can't think of what they're called right now. there is a thread somewhere that id's them.
Hydroids kind of fit that description. Are they hard or leathery? If leathery they might be hydroids, if hard they could be a type of sesile (sp) snail. Or about a hundred other things.
Looks like coraline to me. Hydroids, or stinging hydroids, can become a problem. They have 1/4" or so stalk, have a leathery feel and sting corals. They are brown in color.
