I just want to say that I think it is so disgusting that these fish tank shows take live coral reefs out of the ocean. Do you see the make shift reefs they are having to make out of metal? Ya lets ruin the ocean so you can have ratings. Horrible

What shows are you talking about? I haven't come across these. So you say they remove a whole section of reef including the rocks? The 2 shows I've seen make fake reefs which looks good in the beginning, but I would like to see it in 6mo. when all the coraline algae starts growing on it.

Mr. LLimped is right. They use coral inserts made from man made materials.
A lot of corals that hobbyists use are fraged from another hobbyists and sold. Some come from coral farms (Maricultured). Whole sections of reef are not taken from the ocean for the saltwater hobby (at least to the point of destroying a whole reef).
Reefs from metal (old sunken ships and the such) can look pretty cool after they are allowed to grow in for a few years. Whats wrong with trying to help rebuild reefs???
Not sure where your rant came from...

I think those shows are great, honestly. They promote the industry and they promote environmental awareness as far as i am concerned.
