Hello,
I have had a tank for about 6 months now and I was thinking about adding some corals. What is a low maintenance coral that would be good to start out with. I have a 55 gallon tank with standard flourecent lighting.
Right now I have:
-2 camelback shrimp
-2 emerald crabs
-5 -10 astrea snails
- 2 turbo snails
- 2 hermit crabs
FISH( more on the way:
- 1 maroon clown
Thanks,
Joe

There may be a few low light loving corals that could work...maybe some shrooms and/or polyps...but personally I'd consider at least upgrading to 4x55 or65 watts of PC's or 2-4x110 watts of VHO's....both are widely used and readily available. Just as an example you could probably install 2x110 watts of VHO's for under $250 or so...of course you'd need a canopy to install them....and your water chemistry needs to be monitored and kept stable....but you could easily upgrade your current system to accommodate a nice selection of corals.I'd suggest some research on the types of corals you'd like to keep and then try to establish your system to provide adaquate conditions for those corals. It'll cost some bucks...and take some time...but I believe the effort and expense is well worth it.
