I am thinking about purchasing one of these fixtures and wanted tget some input from you folks. I am looking at the 48" with 2 175w mh and 2 96w CF. The price is good, wondering about quality.
Thanks Guys and Gals!
Hi, I have the exact same lights..48" 2 X 175w MH and 2 X 96w actinic Coralife Elite....after a year and a half it developed a short and now only one side of the MHs light. They are so heavy that the legs they came with snapped off because I could not wrestle the light over the tank and set it down dead on.
I hung the lights on pulleys and that works awesome, I can raise them higher to service the tanks or lower them to change the bulbs.. I love the look and the unit is well made and very sturdy. The price isn't bad either.
You can ONLY use Coralife bulbs, they are a pulse bulb with it's own firing gizmo inside. Otherwise it blows the $70.00 bulb...One ballast worked great, the other, and the three they replaced, got hotter than a skillet...that is also the side with a short now. I may have had a problem from the beginning, but the warranty is over now.....Coralife kept replacing ballasts and then decided the bulbs were the problem. They sent me a bulb. I had replaced the 10K bulbs they came with, with the Phoenix 12K bulbs....I was stuck with 10K bulbs at that time they didn't have the 12K or the 14K
They were quick to replace things but the number for Coralife is no longer valid, they went out of business and sold their name. I had to call the store where I purchased the lights for a number to call, which they quickly gave to me.
