don't worry about it melting. I was personaly concerned about the plastic piece blocking the light from one of the 4 tubes. It seemed to do so as i would look at the surface of the water and notice that on one side of the plastic piece the water had a nice blue tint...while the other side was nasty yellow...I simple pulled the two pieces of glass away from the plastic and let them sit alone...

I would just get the coralife legs for your fixture and let it sit on the rim around your tank and remove the glass top. If your worried about fish jumping then get some eggcrate at home depot.

Is the eggcrate a joke to put around the aquarium floor? Or do you really put it some where on the tanktop? :notsure:

You take your glass top off and cut the eggcrate to fit the top of your tank and just set it on like a glass top.

I had the same light on a 10 gal and it didn't melt the plastic, but I did go to my local glass company and have a piece of glass cut to fit (leave a gap for filter and stuff) for 7.00 and it works fine with no dark spots. I just dump food in the gap at the back.

What type of fish are you putting in there? Because most wont jump out some gobies and jawfish will but clownfish from my experience dont usually jump out unless you are trying to catch him or something...

My firefish gobie jumped out of my 20 gal yesterday while I was cleaning my tank and I didn't see him till it was to late.

i would also suggest to get the legs for the light and go topless. but if you really want the glass top do what was suggested earlier. take the plastic piece off, i also did that a long time ago when i still used glass top.
A short, very sorry to hear about you firefish goby.

this kind of eggcrate ?

is it fine if i leave my light with the normal 10gal glass top? will it harm the glass top?

cant help you about the eggcrate, but the light should not harm the glass top. i never had a problem with that as long as you take the plastic part off. the glass will get warm though, just so you know that.hth
