Coralife Skimmer

OK we have had our skimmer going now for about 1 week. I was told on this site to let it run in order to break it in and eventually the microbubbles will stop. Right now our tank is filling with these bubbles. However they do seem to be decreasing! My question is, what is happening to decrease the bubbles? Is there an algea that builds up on the skimmer that stops the bubbles :notsure: Or something else :help:

I've had the same skimmer for about a month now and I've heard this problem twice now and I don't even understand what you're talkin about I guess. I set mine up in like fifteen minutes...it works perfect. If you're using the bubble diffuser that came with it just make sure you set it up like the manual says....get the tube into it as far as you can...it's also suppose to have just a tad of the top of the box out of water. Mine is actually under the water a little ways. After a week your skimmer should be already broken in, just let the bubbles fill about half the tapered tube, and watch the cup fill with sludge. It's good to get the cup and that tube nice and clean when you empty it as well, it makes for more efficient skimming.

Hey Matt,
Do you have any microbubbles going into your tank? Also what way is your motor facing, with the intake towards the box or away from the box? Also how far down is the top of your motor below water surface?
Thanks

I've heard some people don't use the diffuser cause it's too big which is someting I'm going to look into. I run two power filters as well and I do get some tiny bubbles from that as well...nothing too overwhelming though...bigger bubbles come out of the top of the diffuser.

OK Matt,
We are still at it here! I have a couple of more question! So far we have taken our Skimmer out and have it set up just like yours. Now, is the hole in your black sponge off center? And how far down is the top of your black foam from the top of the box?
Your help is very much APPRECIATED
:joy:

The hole's in the middle. The black foam's about half an inch into the box? Maybe not even... I'd imagine if you had a larger model (mine's the 65) the foam piece and box would be bigger; so the hole would be off-centered that wat you could have it closer to the edge of the tank (where the output tube would be).

We have done everything you have said, but still have tons of microbubbles. We can't even turn the skimmer on! I am starting to think we have a defective skimmer! Going to contact manufacturer to see about a replacement!
Thanks for all your help!
