Has anyone heard anything bad, other than the price, about this MH lamp?
I have been curious about it for sometime because it it the only MH lamp I know about that has a programmable dawn/dusk feature. Why aren't others doing it? <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

The reason that more companies don't have that option is because it doesn't benifit the corals or fish in anyway. Many people feel that is simulates nature but by 8am in the morning the amount of light on a natural reef has far exceeded and amount of light that we can put on our tanks. So basically it is a marketing thing and has little to do with actually helping your tank. However many people turn there actinic bulbs on an hour or so before their daylights, there is nothing wrong with this at all, there is nothing great about it either.

Hmmm. I would think that a smooth light transition would benefit the fish by being more natural and less stressful than an instant switch to black or blue.

I called Coralife about this lamp last year and they told me it had a unique bulb that went with that ballast. No other bulbs would work with it, even with the same kelvin rating and wattage. They also told me they don't sell a lot of them (pricey) so personally, if I bought one, I would be a little worried about them discontinuing it down the road and leaving me searching for bulbs.
I still think it is a cool idea and wish others would pick up on it and refine it.
