I have this skimmer...it is real pain in the you know what...
Completely submurge the box...raise the black top pad over the top of the box and a little out of the water..insert the return water tube as deep into the box as it will go so it sits between the black pad and the white one on the bottom.
It will still have some bubbles coming out of the top of the black pad but it won't hurt anything.

I'd be nervous of having this skimmer as a HOB. I have two of the 125's and I've overflowed them numerous times in my sump. Due to being in the sump I've never worried about the microbubbles either but I can see how that would be a pain.

I dont see how you would overflow them.. if they get to high they just fal back in the main chamber.. but they dont over flow anywhere outside of the system...
The bubbles annoy me.. myLFS says that she takes her bubble box off after a few months and it does fine.. hmmm
o well i guess im stuck for now... wonderin if there is some DIY i can do to get rid of bubble box and stop bubbles... maby a little HOB sump... just let it dreain there...

Believe me, they can and will overflow. The air pushing up through the neck keeps it from flowing back down

I have this skimmer as a HOB...it did overfow once....I never turn it up that high so it is no longer a wet skim...they call it dry skimming. Also I attached a tube, so the collection cup does not fill up, it drains into a gallon jug under the cabinet.
I tweaked the skimmer as I wrote above, and it cured my problem...did you at least try it?

Flower thanks for the Idea. When I moved my 150 the Bubble trap got ripped and was unusable. So what I did was I took an Overflow Prefilter tube and replaced the Bubble trap foam with that. No Microbuibbles at all.
