Coralife Superskimmer

I need a new hang-on skimmer for my 110 reef. I found a good deal on a Coralife 220 with pump for $80.00. Is this a good skimmer? Is there anything I can do (upgrades, mods) to make it a really good skimmer once I get it. Thanks.

You should go ahead and do a search here, but everything I've read on this site about the coralife skimmer is not good.

it is about right on price I have one and wish I would have bought a better one
it works but needs consistent water height and without a mod it tends to overflow ocasionally

I would send you a PM but I can't. Can you post a link to this mod and can you do it on the CL SS 65? I have that one and after working out the few kinks it appears to perform very well. As stated above the only problem I have is needing to keep the constant water level for it to perform right. I have searched and can't seem to find the info...Thanks in advance.
I do have an Octopus 800 coming this week though...

it is not a bad skimmer, but I would not trust it as a hob, mine had a tendency to overflow for no reason.

Sounds simple to me. Does it improve the performance of it that much?

CL125 and CL220 are the same except size. 65 has a completely different pump (rio) but the mod should work just the same. I doubt the needle wheel design is different. Fish line or enkamat PF4 mesh. the 65 is still too small for your 72g. CL125 would work and are for sale used pretty cheap (mine is collecting dust its just too used and abused to sell). Its still way too finicky even with an ATO and strainer airport mod (boring it out carefully virtually eliminates the salt clogging of the port and overflowing. at least it did for me. before dremmeling it out clogged every few weeks. after dremmeling it out NEVER overflowed again. skimmer works better too. not sure if the 65 has the same airline port on the strainer that the 125 and 220 have). everytime my ATO kicked on (JBJ) just that tiny bit of water would cause a temperary yet adjustment causing rise in the water level of the skimmer body. basically I ended up setting the water level lower than I wanted at all times to make up for what happened when the ATO kicked in. I can raise and lower the water level an inch in my sump now and not need to readjust my Octopus.

I have the Octopus coming this week anyways. I play softball for a team out of VA Beach and I am up your way all the time. I'd love to come by and check out your tank and pull from your knowledge base sometime.

I worked in virginia beach up until 2 weeks ago and we had a softball team as well (I didn't play lol but you ever play virgina beach psych center?). are you in one of those carolina cities close to chesapeake? you can check the tank out. aint much yet at only 6 months old (actually I think its the ugliest one I've done so far by far at this point yet has the best equipment of them all
). all this http://dubfidub.homestead.com/julyfi...hfullview1.jpg 100g tank had for filtration was a coralife 125, 25w current usa UV sterilizer and cheato fuge and this http://dubfidub.homestead.com/files/...tsidetank2.jpg 30g tank only had a seaclone 100 so equipment isn't everything.
