Coraline Algae turning white???

What are your water parameters? Too much phosphate will kill coralline, not enough calcium and alkalinity could also be the cause.

mine did the same thing. I had the tank for about 2+ years and it was covered in coraline. Then a couple patches on the wall lost color, then turned almost white. All my readings were normal. I posted it here, but never really got an answer.
I have new coraline growth all over the place, scrapping it off the glass almost on a daily basis. But you can still see the couple of white patches on the back wall.
very interesting.

I am going to test my water tonight. Last time I tested everything was ok. But I did a water change which was a big one due to a nitrate jump and ever since I have some turning white. The weird thing is that I still do have some new growth. I will post results of my water test.

I have found that the coralline on the back wall that is at the top will turn white and die off from water changes. The coralline if exposed to air and light for a fairly short time will do this. My tank has coralline on the back wall only to the point where the water line is when I do a water change each week.
Here is a picture of the Coralline that is growing on the back wall.

Here is a picture of the coralline "line". It grows all the way to the bottom of the wall but not above that line.

yup, a few tanks that I had, when I did water changes on them, all the coralline died when exposed to air too long. Those lines are pretty common. I think it's funny.

Mine does that too. I usually find my phosphates too high or air exposure as already said. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It will come back in a few weeks when the water conditions improve.
