Corals and sensitivity to salinity changes

Hey guys,
Until i set up my large tank I am planning a 20 gallon reef, desk top tank. I am probably not going to use a sump. Therefore no float valve to replace evaporated water.
How sensitive are soft corals to changes in salinity? Should i really invest in a dosing pump? In a previous FOWLR I was fine just adding water in the morning and night. Most of the time I will be able to do this but there might be times when I am away for a day or two.
Thanks

IMO, you don't have to invest in a dosing pump. I would just add water and closely monitor your salinity every day until you figure out the rate of evaporation. You can also try to control evaporation a little more by buying some plastic to put over the currently open sections of the tank lid (if any).

I recommend waiting until you can setup the larger tank with a 20gal tank you have much more to worry about then salinity. They are unstable due to water volume and recommended for experienced reef keepers.
