Could Nitrates increase more using this or less?

I have a new fish in the tank and he is a PIG :hilarious He is a Yellow Tang and the only herbivoure fish I have. All the other fish get feed pellets and Mysis shrimp every other day. He seems to need to be feed daily.
Will feeding the dry seaweed and leaving it on the clip for hours on end cause nitrates?

You should be ok for a few hours. I usually remove the clip after 3-4 hours.
