Couple of Questions water and salt Creep

I just have a couple of questions about water and Salt creep.
I bought a brand new 5 gallon bucket to premix saltwater in and then also got a pump with an airstone to help keep it aggitated. how long should I let the mixed salt water sit before adding to tank when doing a water change? Is there a "right" way to add new water. when I was adding the RO water I just poured it into tank away from the fish.
Salt Creep Question. Any good suggestions to keep this in check? I have a glass hinged top on my tank and get salt encrusted where the glass bends at. I try to scrape it off but it really looks bad.
On a positive note my Sally lightfoot seems to have staked out the whole tank and not just one rock. My son named him brownie. and he seems to be eating like a champ.
I seen a thread earlier stating the the purple stuff on the live rock was good. some of the oive rock I picked up had red on it and also I seem to have some plants growing off of it that are sprouting leaves. good or bad?
Thanks for your help and time

Mix water at least 24 hours. An airstone doesn't move your water much, so you might want to do it a little longer... I use a maxijet. I just pour my water change water in with a pitcher...
Make sure you don't have anything bubbling in the tank. Air bubbles make your salt creep more.
Stuff on your rocks = good. Probably.

Chris,
thats good info from wax32, if I may add some advice also make sure the temperature of the water to be added is the same as that of your tank.
the sprouting leaves could be sargassum- will be ok but you may have to thin it back at times. of course it could be something else. gotta pic?

I had some of that too, it seemed to be some sort of calcerous algae, although I don't have any books on algae to look it up. I got rid of mine but only because it was growing straight up through a patch of nice zoos. If it were me, I'd put that rock in my 'fuge.

Look very close at the stalks of the plants... are they knobby (bumps)? I cant tell from the pics but it appears to be starts of sargassum. sargassum will range from a brownish-green to a pure green color depending on your lighting. When it grows larger 3-4" it will develope air sacs on them. This plant requires very good water quality and bright lighting. I let it grow in my DT to a point but eventually thin it back so that it dosent take over.
