Couple of Questions

I am about to start up a 240 gallon and this will be my first time using a sump. I have an established 125 gal that has been up and running for almost 2 years. The 240 i have has the overflow dead center of the tank for viewing on both sides. It has two holes in the bottom of the overflow. I know how the return works but i am confused on what the water does after it falls in the overflow. Does it fall straight down in the hole and goes to the sump or does it need to be siphoned or what? Also i am going to have two separate closed loop systems and a separate pump on each and i was wondering what size pump i would need. I may have a few corals but mostly just fowlr. And what size return pump would i need for my sump. It will be submersed and has about 5 1/2 feet back to the top of the return. I have no clue what the overflow is rated at. It is a 240 oceanic tank.

It dosent neseccerily have to go in a straight line into the sump[90's,45's]are ok, ,but yes is goes directly into the sump

I would look into Sequence Reeflo Dart or Barracuda pumps.Dart @ 0' head preasure produces 3600 gph and Barracuda 4300 gph. for the closed loop. The size of the return pump depends on how much flow you want traveling through your sump.
