Couple Questions on aerating water and razor blades

I understand you have to aerate your water for 24hrs prior to using for water changes. Is this done purely to dissolve salt and add oxygen? I guess I'm my real question is if its okay to aerate the water and store it for later use?
I'm also wondering if anyone knows of a way to keep razor blades from rusting after you use them? I'm not cheap and dont mind buying new ones, but its seems like they rust overnight after the first use. I dry them off to the best of my ability. Even tried putting them in a container with some rice. Seems like I heard rice absorbs moisture somewhere... :notsure: Anyways if anyone has some knowledge to share, I'd appreciate it.

I wouldn't store the water for too long. It's not sterile and eventually you will have microbes growing in it. As for the razor blades, rinse them off with RO water and store them in a jar of vegetable oil. No rust.

...or, don't use razors. Depending what you're using them for, there are other alternatives. I have seen scrapers made of plastic that work just as well. If you're using them to frag soft corals I have seen people use very fine fishing line to cut through polyps and such.

I guess I just need to store it for like a week. Would that be too long? And I'm sorry for sounding like a noob, but what are/can microbes do? How will they affect the water? A link will do if ya got one and dont feel like going in to it.
I was just using the blades to clean the tiny green algea dots on the glass. I use a mag float to clean like everyday or so but it can be a pain to use that on the green dots and coralline.
Thanks for the responses.

The salt makes it rust really fast.
The vegetable oil would work but In my opinion that's VERY dangerous. You dont want to slip when you're scraping. Gosh it makes me cringe even writing that.
Just buy box full, a dollar store should have some cheap ones.

I use my ex-wife's plastic pampered chef scrapers. They work great and no fear of getting cut or rust or cutting the sealant in the corners.
You can get a few of them for next to nothing
