cow fish??

will there be trouble with putting a cow fish into my 55 reef?
i have
candy cane
4yellow tang
clown
blue hippo
3 emerald crabs
lots of scarlet hermits
lots of blue legs
open brain
3 cucumbers
3 flame scallops

with all of the fast moving tangs in your 55, it will probably not be fast enough to get any food, and thus will starve to death. Cowfish are also extremely prone to Ick, and are extremely sessile fish. I personally would not recommend putting a cowfish with any tangs, whatsoever...just my .02

Also know that most cowfish get very, very large (upwards of 18"-24" in wild settings) and they will outgrow a 55 tank..........that is, if they could get anything to eat with all of those tangs in there. Welcome to Ick City.

that and the whole kamakazi thing that they also do. I would not put one in a 55 as well. they are cool looking fish but . . . .

I also heard they release toxins into the water when they die.

I heard they should be the first fish into your tank, also that they are slow eaters, so they wont do well with fast fish. Thats just what I heard, although the lfs has has one in one of thier tanks that has a few tangs in it. He has been there for a few months. If you decide to by one good luck

I have read that they need alot of room to swim. When they get bigger in a small tank they could run into the glass and break their horns. That's just what I have read.

i had one in my 75 for about a year it wasnt really a reef but he didnt bother the shrooms,brain, or anemone. unfortunatly he did die of ick as was said above. he probably fought it 2-3 times. he was about 4-5" long. he was aggresive when the food came out. coral bueaty,harliquen sweeetlips,green bird wrasse,kole tang for tank mates,he took his share of food before the others.ihe would also eat from my hand.

i had one in my 75 for about a year. it wasnt really a reef-shrooms,brain,anemone(not in pic.) but it didnt bother anything. it also ate its fair share. tank mates- harliquen sweet lips,kole tank,coral bueaty,green bird wrasse. it usually ate first and the most. it would also eat from my hand. mine did fight ick 2-3 times and then lost. this is just my experiance though, use caution. mine had no ill effects to the tank when he died either.
