crab eaten

im new to the wonderful hobby of saltwater aquariums, i have a 12 gallon tank with 1 true percula a orange star a yellow clown goby, about 6snails and had 3scarlet crabs, but when i got this mourning, one of the crabs was in peices. what could have done this?

It could have molted.
Side note: orange linka stars need big tanks with lots of rock, 100# or so

My porcelain crab did the same thing but I think either my puffer or trigger got it. I saw the pieces on the sand.

Agree, If it wasn't molting that you saw, I vote for the Orange Linka.
Trade her in at the fish store, so you can get some money back for something else they need established tanks--- I checked with Opihura <

the tankhas been up and running for about amonth, it as cycled. and i had a water test done yesterday and all the readings were fine.

The star did NOT eat this crab. It is not a predatory start but WILL almost certainly starve to death in that tank in around 8 months or so. Not all, but most. It generally can not be spot fed. It is also a VERY young tank to have so many things - especially a seastar! Please please return it. Most stars are not suitable for that tank size except predatory stars (chocolate chips) or some brittlestar/serpentstars....but IMO not until the tank is significantly older.
I would bet you saw a molt, which looks rather disturbingly like an "attacked" crab.
Unfortunately "fine" does not tell us much and "fine" is also a very large range :yes: What is "fine" for fish -especially in terms of specific gravity - is often fatal to invertebrates. If it is fine, brag about it...the values are very important to know :yes:
