NO PIC
I have been noticing several of these crabs popping up in the past few days.
They sorta look like red emeralds but have short brown spiky hair all over them. They look pretty scary! Any ideas? Are they good or bad?
thanks

I purchased some LR and a crab similar in description came with it. He looked like an emerald but with larger claws and spiked hair all over his body and indeed looks sinister. I kept him for a while with no problem but my buddy, who purschased the same LR, lost turbo snails and a royal gramma and six-line wrasse. I got rid of mine before he became a problem.

Did he actually see the crab attack the fish? I haven't seen them going after anything yet.
At this point my reef hermits are more dangerous, they've taken out a few turbos!

Nope never saw him attacking a fish but many times caught him with a turbo upside down eating it right out of the shell. Considering what was in his tank the hitch hiker was the only answer. He mainly was caught with the fish during the day half devoured. We suspected he would find where they slept at night and ambush them. Once he was taken out nothing else disappeared.

where did you buy your LR? I wonder if it is the same place I got mine. I say this because the LR I bought is not fiji LR or the like it is from the states and aqua cultured in the waters off of Florida.

Both me and my buddy got our LR from Tampa Bay Saltwater but have other types in there. Cool at least I know when I buy more from them to look it over really well. Later.
