without a pic it is really hard to tell but maybe it is what you say it looks like? I have seen emeralds in many different colors, brown, green, red,dark orange.

cant find it now to get a pic but it looks just like an emerald crab besides the color... i added 3 emeralds a month or so ago and i know that one died but those three were green... can the switch colors???
