Crabs vs macroalgea

I plan on purchasing some cleaners from swf.com in the near future while blueleg hermit crabs are still on sale. I was wondering though, if I also buy some shaving brushes will the hermits eat them?

Crabs are oppotunistic. They will eat whatever is easiest for them to eat.
My feeling is that they'll leave your macro alone unless you overstock them and they are searching for food.
