Creepy Stuff in the Filter

Hi All. Just opened up the top of my Emperor 400 fliter for cleaning, and found about 100 or so whitish/cream colored things. They are firmly attached to the inside of the filter body and are growing in the actual filters. Each on has a hole in the top of their body and very similar looking to a cooked macaroni noodle, although these appear to be much more firm. I'll try to get a pic in the next day or two, but I'm looking for any thoughts in the mean time. Thanks!

sounds like a q-tip sponge they love to attach in high flow areas. They are signs of a healthy tank. The numbers fluctuat so next month there may not be any in there

will these guys just apear in your tank with not an original in the tank? or what are they, how do they just appear?
They'll likely come in as a single hitchhiker and then multiply. Nothing in your tank just "appears", usually.

Live rock is a wonderful and amazing thing. If you get a magnifying glass you'll find that these new sponges aren't the only things that "just appeared". If you look enough you'll probably see hydroid jellyfish on the glass.
