i just purchased a Crocea clam and was wondering if it has to be placed in the substrate or if it could be place high in the tank on rocks? I have 260w florescent lighting. Anyone have any recommendations.
thanks

prob high up if it'll stay there. the clam will let you know if it likes it's spot or not. If it doesn't it will move and fall off the rock. if it does, it will attach it's foot and stay. but I would try to go higher. my two croceas finally settled down in the top quarter of my tank on the top of the rock. they both were in two different places before staying where they are now.

Croceas do best under intense lighting. I would keep it as high in your tank as you can. Just make sure it is stable, they can move themselves very easily if they are not in a secure place.

It has to be as high as possible! Might not make it with just 260 PCs. I assume some are actinics too. I had a crocea under PCS but there were no actinics and I had 195Watts on a 20 gallon and the clam was 2 inches under the water. Crocea need to be in rocks so they can attach their foot too.

also, how big is the clam? anything under 2.5 inches or so can be quite difficult, in my experience.

its pretty large, probably 4.5-5 inch. Its currently in the bottom of the tank and seems to be fully open. It will attach a foot to normal live rock?
