Crocs in the Neighborhood

Pretty cool. We have new neighbors who just moved in. Of course they are living in a stagnet SW inlet. Apparently a family of the endangered American Crocs decided to settle in and rear eggs. The ranger said they were the only ones in this area [fla keys]. And right down the street from my house.
Unforntunately humans found them and there has been harrassment and illegal feedings going on. Looks like the rangers are posted in the bush now waiting to hand out citations.
I got a glimpse of the mom and she's a real beauty! If you like the scaly type that is.

WOW, how exciting. Too bad the village idots are ruining it.
Did you get any pics? We are heading to the keys in the fall, don't know where yet, but it all looks beautiful to us.

wow thats amazing what key do you live on? my grandfather lives in key largo on the bay side and i go donw there all the time

I live on the outskirts of Bham, so all I have to worry about is the occasional "hissing" possum in the backyard, or the deer crossing the road. Hit one a few years ago in my S-10 pickup and my radiator and ac condenser was wrapped around my engine. But I can't imagine, walking out to the back yard, to relax for a minute and gaze at the stars, and "SNAP,SNAP,SNAP!!!!!!!!"..............."CRIIIKEEEYYYY!!!"

we see the occasional gator on the intercoastal waterway in Florida. :scared: They seem very comfortable due to the fools around there always feeding them. :nope:

Well, while I was up at the gator hole here, a ranger, or whatever he was, was just giving a ticket to a woman who was caught feeding the crocs! Apparently some have been throwing chickens in the waterway.
Seems a little odd that they just don't remove these crocs to a safe place, espeically since they really are very endangered.

Seems odd to me that someone would feed a croc a chicken. Screw the croc, the chick is going on the grill....but that's just me.................:jumping:

your right, they should just try to remove them to safety....who knows what those fools cold be doing to that food. And how dangerous is that to try and feed them??? :scared:

If you come to Key West, you will be paying for it for a year. The cheezys motel in town costs $150 a nite most of the time. Depends on how much money you want to spend a nite.

Pier House....? We have an opportunity to have a few days with out kids (!!!!! ) and don't want to go too far. I wanted to go further but time won't permit. I really wanted Aurba, but too far and didn't want to spend that much. Key West just seemed like a fun place to visit for a few days. Not to mention very pretty.

I've read articles and seen some TV shows about relocating american crocodiles. They were working with american crocs in central and south america. They had a huge problem with the crocs returning to their home ranges. If you have them there and they are big enough to breed their old home probably has a new condo built there or some other factor has run them off.

It is believed that this croc orginally came from Big Pine Key, which is 30 miles up the road. That area is protected and building is very restricted. He swam 30 miles down to settle in a tiny waterway in a very populated area.
Pier House is nice, but expensive. The rooms are rather small. You might want to rent a guesthouse if you are willing to pay top dolllar for a little room. Key West is overpopulated and the water is polluted. I won't swin in the water.
