I was watching the news just now, and some PERSON was showing how they make an Asian salad with octopus...they remove a young octopus from the water, and set it on top of their veggies and pour soy sauce on the poor creature and watch it as it dies, then they said to chop it up and eat it. I hope it S__T on the veggies as it's last death throw.

An octopus is so intelligent, and I think that's some horrible way to die. I know folks eat fish and other sea life, and everything thing else under the sun...but that was just cruel. I figure if you're going to eat it...at least kill it quick and as painlessly as possible.

I just had to vent.

Nothin like fresh sea food to satisfy your hunger. There's another place where people enjoy monkey brains as a delicacy. They lock the little monkey in the middle of the table (live) and they crack his little head open then scoup out the brain matter. Doesn't that sound delish?

There are a lot of things that people do that are their lifestyles that IMO are SICK.....BUT.....that's their culture not ours....THANK GOODNESS

...I mentioned that video on my facebook page...poor little terrified monkey, it was like watching a child being murdered. I'm with you Meowzer, I'm glad it's not our culture.

How is this any different than dropping a live lobster or crab into a pot of boiling water?
Or cracking open an oyster and sucking it down while it is still alive?

l 100% agree.. isn't God Smart...

I don't eat sea food, it's not food for Jews, some eat it, but we are not supposed to.

The way they treat the poor cows, killing them with a hammer gun isn't much better. That's not the way we Jews kill cows either.

Blah...maybe Vegan's have a point.

some place in China also boils cats alive to strip the hair off of them.

Also... there's a delicacy somewhere in asia called... belute? (sp) boiled baby duck in an egg. Almost fully developed.

And no, God put animals on this Earth for me to eat. How I decide they need to be slaughtered is up to my taste buds.

I disagree that we need to torture a creature before the feast, and that it somehow enhances the flavor. There is always a humane way to do something, the fact that people don't choose that route make it no less cruel.

I agree. What can someone get out of seeing an animal tortured before they eat it. Something sick going on with that I don't care what culture it is. There is some human history behind such. Ancient hunters who would remove the heart of a beast they'd hunt and eat it on the spot. Warriors who'd drink the blood of their strong enemies they'd killed.

Hunting for sustenance is one thing and it should be done as quickly and efficiently as possible. Prolonging agony is just sadistic. But if you want to wear the skin, eat the heart and drink the blood of the animal you just killed because you are a great warrior then hey, do what makes you happy.
In most cases traditional hunting is far more humane than ending up at the slaughter house.
Vegans, pffft...

Hold on and think about this. Removing an octopus from the ocean essentially suffocates it. Placing a live octopus on a plate suffocates it. Explain the difference? Is it the soy sauce that makes this cruel?

It is if they didn't use la choy.
It can't be that much crueler than being in this hobby. Just because we try to do the right things for livestock doesn't make up for the fact most of them suffer a long, slow death in our tanks.

Oh so very true. ...But at least we stress right along with the poor critter, instead of licking our lips.

Although my nephew always checks to see how big my shrimp are getting, and always comments, "almost big enough to eat".

Now that the original shock of seeing somebody pour soy sauce on a poor still alive baby octopus, I realize it's part for the natural course. I watched what death an octopus suffered in the ocean, that big fish chased it and ate it, one leg at a time. I guess we just live on a cold cruel planet, from the tiniest insect to us humans...LOL...aliens had better think twice before they visit our little blue world.

And stepping on cockroaches, thats some cruel shite also. I dont spray for termites anymore for concern of termite cruelty, it's just not nice to kill bugs so I just let them shred everything and try to be mindful of their feelings... and what about those rodents, they have rights too. No longer rats but rodent Americans. LOL, should we stop quarantining because of the cruelty to diseases.
A slippery slope indeed...

So where is the line drawn?

Nature kills things all the time (and not for reasons of survival). My cat kills, mice for the fun of it, the dog likes to rip up squirrels and a skunk or two on occasion and those cute Bottlenose Dolphins we all love ...http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/bizarre/news-bottle-nosed-dolphins-only-animal-kills-fun

The wrong answer = pass more laws in an attempt to control human nature.

The natural soloution = live within the boundaries of nature and accept the fact that the weaker foms of life simply re-join the food chain much sooner, i.e the herd mentality...Eventually they evolve and become stronger.
