crushed coral and live sand (can they mix?)

simple question..
can one mix crushed coral with live sand?
rite now i have a 3.5 inch crushed coral bed but wanted to mix in some sand..
is this advisable?
tank is 150 fowlr
8 small hermit crabs
1 large hermit with anenomes on its back
4 damsels

id say no unless u were just now starting the tank..then i belive it would be fine..but i may not be correct..also..what lighting do u have on ur tank..since its a FOWLR im assuming its nothing special..and the anenome on the hermits back will surely die
 
Not really,the sand is just go to the bottom.Put your inhabitants in a holding tank for awhile and then switch out the cc to livesand or a mixture of live and dry.Wait and check ammonia/nitrite,it should go up then back to zero_Once everything stabilize then put your inhabitants back in.
