I always start with a half cup per gallon and adjust from there.

Yep half a cup per gallon - and raise afterward if needed. Also do the math on a 5 gallon bucket sometime. Leave it 3 inches down and you still have over 5 gallons in it. Trust me - I used to complain that paint came short in five gallon buckets all the time because they were never full. I was corrected by a manufacturer. TTr2 (pie x radius squared) X height / 231 = gallons. pie = 3.14 radius = 6 and hieght = 15 so a full 5 gallon bucket will have just over 7 gallons. So only fill the bucket up tp 11 inches off the inside bottom (leave some freeboard)

HA thats funny I used to think the same thing when I was a painter.

Imagine if they did fill it up all the way how hard it would be to pour it off into small carry buckets... you can't really throw a powerhead into a bucket of paint and pump it out...

I used to throw a intake to a paint sprayier in and go to town. But I used to paint hotels so you use alot of paint.

So just to clear things up a full 5 gallon pail would be more like 7ga if filled to the top?

Apparently. I guess I've been ripping off the lfs 2 gallons at a time!

SOrry to burst your bubble, but you're probably not criminal.

i bought my 5 gallon bucket from Home depot. It has marks on it so you know where the gallons are. IDK if it's smaller than typical 5 gallon buckets, but mine is actually 5 gallons. 5 gallons is about an inch from the top rim of the bucket.

BUT maybe the paint buckets are different. IDK what you're using

I just got a gallon milk jug (cleaned of course) and added 1 gallon at a time to the bucket to determine how many gallons my kittly litter bucket was (turned out to be 4)
