Hello everyone! I have been in the hobby for 3 yrs and now have first case of ich in 150gal fish and LR only tank, onset 1wk. Have been told to use Formalin in main tank, and have dosed now for 6 days with not much signs of improvement. Water parameters are WNL with nitrates slightly elevated at 5ppm. Fish mainly infected: the hippo and purple tang, sunset wrasse and tusk. Sunset wrasse scrapping head onto overflow and breathes fast at times. The others have the salt or sugar specs on body and fins, Using garlic, selcon and zoe for marinating foods. What input can anyone suggest? Also, how about med Quick Cure?

Bad idea to put formaldehyde in a tank with LR. Formalin is not effective for ich. Take a look at the FAQ Thread and read the posts on ICH and hyposalinity. Stop adding formalin to your tank.

The only proven methods that kill parasites are hyposalinity and copper. Neither should be administered in the main display tank and both have pros and cons.
Unless there has been a recent discovery no other additives will kill parasites except copper.

Is there something going on in your tank that may be stresing them out? My last ich out break was due to the water being to warm and once I got it under control it went away. Only one of my fish were infected but I still took the chance and left it alone and let nature run it's course ans everything is fine. That was 3 weeks ago and no probs since. Good luck. I hope you can fix it. Check all of your equipment to make sure something isn't going on with that.

Here I go again, check my other posts for details...UV IS NOT GOING TO KILL ICH. The required exposure is far greater than feasible to apply to a home aquarium.
