Curing concrete?

We've all been to a lot of aquariums that puddle and mold concrete into interesting backgrounds for very large tanks.
Is this regular concrete? Is there any special recipe for leeching the lime out of it to make it tank safe?
I'm remodeling my bedroom and have the opportunity to build a wraparound tank which could be 14' long with 8' wings on either end. The sidewalls can't be viewed from the outside so I was thinking about puddling them and concealing all the returns and powerheads in the concrete. The long wall of the tank would be viewable from either the bedroom or my office adjacent. Since the new office doesn't exist yet it could be as deep as I wanted up to a maximum of 6' with a 30" height.
This would be, without a doubt, the biggest project I've ever undertaken but if I get it built I think I'll probably get a lifetime pass from the Tang Police for any allegations of overcrowding! In addition to type-fish from a variety of Tang species I've always wanted a school of about 24 Blue Hippos.
Because the room would be constructed with the tank in mind weight isn't an issue so I plan on using glass. The skimmers, sumps, RO/DI producers, and refugia (is that a word?) would be in a room behind one of the 8' walls.
I'm in some sort of psychic overdrive trying to plan for all the possibilities! I guess I'll never have to worry about large fish in quarantine since I could use my 450 for that purpose (someone once offered me an 8" Naso and I was afraid to put it directly in my big tank).
