What is the best way to cure live rock in a new tank?
Does live rock require any special lighting?
Thanks, Jim

Do you have live sand in the tank? Is this a new tank set-up (I.E. nothing in it right now) If that is the case put the live rock in the put the sand in. You want the live rock in before the sand so if you get a fish or invert that like to burrow or dig then you won't have to worry about the rocks falling down. Then you can either cycle the tank with raw shrimp. Or if the live rock is un-cured then that should start your cycle. But in my opinion I would start the cycle with a raw shrimp or two depends on the size of tanks. Then I let mine cycle for 2 months before any livestock went in. Also if the ammonia is 1.0 or higher when you test do a 15% water change to get it back to .50. If you have any live craetures or coral on your live rock that came as hitchikers they will die if the ammonia gets too high. hope this helps
Live rock does not require and special lighting, just corals and anemone's.
Also make sure you have power heads to move the water. If the tank is already full of livestock then cure the rock in a empty tub or trash can, just add a power head or two and a heater

if you are adding live rock to a new tank(which is what i believe you have stated) you do not need to put anything else in the tank to start the cycle. the die off from the live rock is plenty.
i wouldn't suggest having the lights on during the cycle. there is no need for it, and chances are you'll have some algae issues because of it.
