Custom Stand or Hood in Chicago area

Do you want a custom stand or hood but don't have the time, tools or talent to make one? Don't want to pay ton$ of money to a store to buy a sub-quality stand?
I have found myself with a lot of spare time in the next several weeks so I am willing to build you the stand and/or hood of your dreams. Just tell me the dimensions of your tank, what you want and I will quote you a price and build it for you!
Stained Oak, Walnut, or painted, I will finish it for you as well! I can even custom match it to your ********.
If you are anywhere near the Chicago area or are willing to drive and pick it up, give me a buzz. Email me
I have plenty of time on my hands and no room to make anything else for myself (not to mention that the "boss" won't let me have any more tanks right now
).
Let me know!!

That could be shipped. Email me with specifics as to what you want. Do you want it set up with lights/fans or just an empty hood?

Email me with info on what you want and a pic of your stand for matching.
Doors or flush fit? Open back? Fan ports?
Thanks

how deep the tank is does not matter for the height of MH lights. I would go with 12" high. That way you have some working room for reflectors and sockets. I would definatley recommend vent fans though as MH gets very hot and will slowly cook your tank without ventilation.
AS for matching, there are about a hundred different styles. Knowing what you have I can match something style-wise up for you so they it least look like they were bought together. All black makes things easier as I don't have to worry about grain patterns.
Let me know and I can design something for you and get a quote to you.

Got it. Looks like pine with plywood. Easy enough to work with and will weigh less than hardwood so that will help with shipping.
I'll work on a design tonight/tomorrow morning and get back to you.

Here is a rough sketch of what I am planning. The shaded areas are trim and each door opens outwards. The hood will sit over the top of the tank and cover the plastic trim to give it a smoother transition and help with appearance. I can do a 3" hole at each end. If you want to to go with 4" fan holes, I will need a new cutter.
The top part will have several cross beams so attaching lights, reflectors and stuff should not be a problem. It will not be designed to house ballasts (PC, MH or other) though so keep that in mind and if you want ballasts, I will have to reinforce things.
I will swing by the lumber yard tomorrow and get a rough estimate on material costs. With labor, you may be looking in the neighborhood of $150 - $200 plus the actual shipping costs. I will get you a more accurate estimate tomorrow early afternoon.
It will be light wood so you will have to paint it and seal it to prevent warping over time. I would go with gloss white on the inside for better light reflection and for heat issues. I actually have the paints for black and white if that is what you want. Toss in another $20 and I will paint it too!
Ideas or feedback?

I went to the local lumber store and got some prices. Added things up and here is my official quote:
For the hood measuring 18"w x 48"l x 12"h (will actually be around 14" high but lighting will be 10-12" above water surface) with two doors, open back and 3" vent fan holes (2): $150 unfinished, $170 painted & sealed plus actual shipping costs (won't know until done and packaged up).
If interested, I could get it done this week and have it ready for shipping by weekend.

Dimensions of tank?
Also would want to know what your stand looks like for a close match (email pic).
Are you wanting lights mounted in it or just the hood empty? What type of lights are you planning (MH, PC, VHO, ect)? This will determine height of hood.
Let me know.
